Swimming won't cause direct effects on dry eye syndrome but it maybe. However, there shouldn't be long term effects. When you go swimming, the harsh chemicals in the water can cause irritation and infection in the eyes. Then you will get the symptoms of redness which is similar to the symptoms of dry eye.

It maybe. The harsh chemicals in a swimming pool can cause some people to have irritation in the eyes. They could have redness and a sensation of foreign objects in their eyes. So it is better to wear swimming goggles when swimming.
