I don't think eye dryness can cause glaucoma. Glaucoma refers to increased intraocular pressure resulted from bad drainage or excessive production of aqueous humor. It might be caused by various eye conditions or diseases and worsen the development, including cataract, retinopathy, vitreous opacity and inflammations. It also can be triggered by some systematic disease such as diabetes. Dryness of eyes can't trigger glaucoma, while it is a common symptom of glaucoma. Glaucoma is the leading cause to blindness which impact many people all over the world. At the very beginning, patients have no uncomfortable feeling although their intraocular pressure is increased acutely. Doctors usually will have patients to take more frequent eye examination than normal person to monitor and keep the IOP under control. If you are suspicious of getting glaucoma, you should take examination as soon as possible. Once damages to nerve ends formed, you can't restore the vision.

From some expertise's study, we can find, the glaucoma is a complex elusive eyes disease, increased pressure in the eyeball is the main feature of glaucoma. And the injury of optic nerve, visual field defect are the other reason which may cause it. Long time's high pressure in the eyeball will lead to partial injury or integral visual nerves to reduce the information that the nerves sending to the brain, the patient's vision will gradually decrease till blindness. As for the dry eye, it may be caused by eyes infection or eyes fatigue. However, the other reason of dry eyes may be caused by the common term of xerosis of conjunctiva. It's the eyes symptom of tear film's pathological change, thus the cornea and conjunctiva without normal moist and feel dry. It will lead to blurred vision in a long time. However, I find there are nothing relative with the glaucoma and the dry eyes.

Dry eyes and glaucoma always go together. That means dry eyes can cause glaucoma and glaucoma is one cause of dry eyes. Recently a study showed that 40-50% of glaucoma patients have dry eye syndrome, and women are more likely than men to have it. Glaucoma is an eye disease in which the optic nerve is damaged in a characteristic pattern. And it has a deep effect on human beings eye sight. Glaucoma is usually, but not always, associated with elevated pressure in the eye. While dry eyes can irritate and increase pressure in the eye, especially when dry eyes cause tired eyes. At that moment, the pressure will damage the optic nerves and cannot keep transmitting signals. Around the world, glaucoma is the big factor of causing irreversible blindness. So we should seek proper and good treatment options for glaucoma.
