Is $158 too much for a pair of transition glasses?

  That sounds extremely unreasonable. You can get the same transition glasses with lower price online.

  Yeah.transition glasses are usually more expensive than normal ones.So it is reasonable to get transition glasses for that price.transition glasses can change its color just like sunglasses.So you don't have to buy sunglasses and wear transition glasses instead.That is, transition glasses can save your money for sunglasses.Therefore the transition glasses worth the money.
