Here are the common reasons for excessive eye blinking in adults: First, inflammation, this is the most common reason, it may be caused by bacteria, viruses, Chlamydia infection, such as conjunctivitis, keratitis. Second, it may be the congenital eyelid entropion and trichiasis. Third, hyperactivity, it means a part of your body has a suddenly involuntary contraction movement, such as eye blinking. Fourth, eyestrain, it includes eye fatigue, which caused by refraction errors, especially hyperopia, myopia. Fifth, neurological blink, due to the disposable nerve fibers which control orbicularis muscle is stimulated, it has frequent contraction, and then lead to eye blink. Sixth, some people may have frequent eye blink because of above disease, after having treatment, they also keep the habit of frequent blinking.

My friend often blinks her eyes. She told me that she got an infection when she was very young. Her mother told her that the doctor said if you baby can't go over that period, she may die or suffer from big disease in her later life. The inflammation in her brain caused the excessive blinking.

I know there are several reasons that can cause excessive eye blinking for adults. In details, people with dry eyes will blink their eyes often so as to keep moist of their eyes. If you got dry eye, perhaps using some eye drops will help you releases eye blink. Besides, nervous tic, stress and anxiety can also cause excessive blinking. So, you can take a deep breath and make yourself relax. In addition, some medication like Ritalin will also cause excessive blinking. If you got excessive eye blinking too often, you'd better consult an eye doctor.

Excessive eye blinking commonly results from eye irritation caused by bright light, dust, smoke, or a foreign body in the eye. Allergies, infections, and dry eye may also increase the rate of blinking. Conditions of stress, anxiety or fatigue may lead to increased blinking. Facial tics, which are habitual repetitive twitches or movements of the face that occur most often in children, may include increased blinking. Congenital glaucoma is a rare cause of increased blinking. Eye blinking symptoms are not usually serious unless they occur in reaction to a strong chemical in your eye or to trauma or corneal abrasion. if a caustic chemical has gotten in your eyes or if you have pain or vision changes. You should also seek immediate medical care for signs of a stroke such as sudden numbness or weakness of the face or a limb, especially on one side of the body, sudden confusion, difficulty seeing, sudden vision changes, sudden difficulty with coordination, or sudden severe, unexplained headache.

Certain uncommon medical conditions such as blepharospasm or certain forms of facial tics may cause frequent blinking. These may be genetic diseases or brought on secondarily by other disorders. Certain psychiatric disorders or simple anxiety may be associated with frequent blinking. An ophthalmologist should be able to help you determine the reasons for blinking and offer various forms of treatment.

I saw an old lady who often nodded her head and blinked her eyes. She often turned her head to my side and nodded her head with excessively blinking. I was so curious about that so I paid a little attention to her. I found that she did this every half a minute. I think that she may suffer from some nerve problems. You can have your eyes checked by an eye doctor immediately. Good luck!
