Can diabetes cause glaucoma?

  Yes, people with diabetes are twice as likely to develop glaucoma. As we know people with diabetes has high blood sugar, that can cause the lens of the eye to swell. If the fluid in the eye does not drain properly, a buildup of pressure can occur known as intraocular pressure (IOP). And the intraocular pressure can further cause nerve and vessel damage in the eye that led to the loss of vision. That is what we known as glaucoma.

  It is said that diabetes is one of the risk factors that cause glaucoma. If the diabetes is untreated for a long time, it can not only cause glaucoma, but lead to loss of vision. When you get diabetes, the lens of your eye will swell due to high blood sugar. If it is not controlled, it can cause high eye pressure known as intraocular pressure (IOP) and then lead to glaucoma eventually. So once you are diagnosed with diabetes, you should have it treated as soon as possible.

  Diabetes can cause glaucoma. The possibility of people with diabetes is three times of ordinary people for having glaucoma. The glaucoma caused by diabetes is neovascular glaucoma, which is caused by iris neovascularization, it is different from the general glaucoma, the treatment is more difficult. Diabetic retinopathy is a process, you must strictly control the blood sugar, or else just eye treatment has not good effect.
