Can vitiligo affect the eyes?

  Vitiligo is a condition of pigment disorder in the skin and mucous membranes. It is caused by the loss of pigment, due to the destruction of pigment-forming cell named as melanocytes. The exact reason for this destruction remains unknown. There is a popular theory about vitiligo that the cell was destroyed by body's immune system. No matter how, this condition affect 0.5%-2% population of the world. The skin color selectively turns pale surrounded by healthy skin. It is much more noticeable for dark-skin race. I looked into materials, and got no sources about the connection between vitiligo and eye conditions. The impact on eyes from vitiligo could be easily found out. It commonly affects the color of skin which part is exposed to sun, such as face, and openings around body. Vitiligo can affect eyelids and hairs too. There is some rare cases that vitiligo can change the color of retina too. It causes pigment loss of retina. So far, no more other effects on eyes are founded.

  Well, generally speaking, vitiligo will affect eyes. As we know that vitiligo is a skin disorder, and it appears on a person's skin. And you should know that if your body's melanocytes are destroyed, it occurs. Except for skin, vitiligo can affect the moist lining of the eyes. For example, with vitiligo, it may have some abnormalities in their retinas and some variation of color in their irises. Even if there is some inflammation of the retina or iris, but vision is usually not affected. So vision problem can not occur, and you do not need to worry about it.
