Are UV coatings on prescription lenses are as effective as sunglasses?

My husband often works outdoors and he has a UV coating on his prescription lenses.He thinks it is enough to protect his eyes from the sun.But I think he still need sunglasses.Are UV coatings on prescription lenses are as effective as sunglasses?

The prescription glasses with UV coatings on its lenses have the same effect as sunglasses. They can also block UV rays so that your eyes can't be damaged by harmful rays. However, it may be not as dark as sunglasses if you don't tint them dark.

UV coatings on prescription clear lenses are to some degree as effective as those on sunglasses. But it can not prevent you from 100% UV rays, instead sunglasses with dark tint color or polarized lenses can do. You can decide it by yourself.

I think the UV coating is not as effective as sunglasses.As the lens is clear ,they can't block the 100% lights as the tinted lenses do.
