Is it OK to have semi-rimless glasses if my vision is -8.00 ?

I want semi rimless glasses but I have strong prescription ,-8.00 in both eyes. I am wondering whether 1.74 with polished edges will be ok. Will they look strange?

Lenses in 1.74 index of refraction will be ok for -8.00.Actually 1.61 or 1.67 is enough .But it can still be thicker at the edge and there is no way to hide them. Polished edges is a good way to hide them.

Go to optical store and ask.I guess it is available.
