There are many reasons that your eye may be blood shot and your eye care professional can easily address this kind of problem. The most important thing you need to make sure is that your vision remains good. If there have been any changes in your vision, you should see an eye doctor, or even your primary care doctor, immediately. This could be a sign of something serious that needs to be addressed. If your vision is fine, there are several possible causes, most of which are not potentially dangerous to your vision if they are corrected in a timely manner. Redness is most often a manifestation of irritation, and so anything that would irritate your eye could cause redness. Likewise, anything that decreases irritation will often lead to improvement. Minor trauma can often happen, even while you sleep, and can lead to a red eye. This will usually improve slowly over a few days. Dry eyes can also lead to redness, as can sunburn or allergies. Wearing contacts too much without cleaning or other problems with contacts can also cause irritation. Frequent rubbing from any other reason will also lead to irritation. Please speak to your eye doctor or primary care doctor to determine what may be causing your red eye. I hope your eye gets better soon!

Bloodshot eyes are often due to mild conditions, such as eye fatigue, dehydration, and overuse of contact lenses. They can also be due to infections and allergic reactions. In some cases, a bloodshot or red eye or eyes can indicate an emergent condition that can lead to loss of sight, such as acute glaucoma or an eye injury.Bloodshot eyes can begin suddenly and disappear quickly, such as when you have a mild allergic reaction to animal dander or dust. Bloodshot eyes can also develop with time and occur along with additional symptoms, which may be a sign of a more serious condition, such as a corneal ulcer or eye infection. Depending on the underlying cause, treatment for bloodshot eyes can range from rest and hydration to more extensive treatment, such as medication or surgery.

Bloodshot eyes are also commonly called red eyes. They are caused when the small blood vessels on the surface of the eye (sclera) become enlarged and congested with blood. This occurs as a result of insufficient oxygen supply to the cornea or the tissues covering the eyes. Usually, bloodshot eyes are not really a cause for major concern but if eye pain or impaired vision occurs, this may be an indication of a serious problem.A variation of this condition is a bright red, uniformly dense bloody area which forms on the sclera as a result of a small amount of bleeding. This bloody blotch usually occurs upon waking up in the morning. It does not hurt but looks awful, and will clear within a few days. This bloody blotch is called a subconjunctival hemorrhage. In cases where fatigue and eyestrain are the causes of bloodshot eyes, treatment is generally not required. More serious cases of bloodshot eyes that do not clear up shortly may require you to consult with an ophthalmologist.Eye drops are usually prescribed in order to provide relief for red eyes. Eyes may need irrigation with a normal saline solution to remove foreign bodies. If pink eye (conjunctivitis) is diagnosed, avoid touching the infected area and rubbing the other eye as this is a very contagious condition.
