In general cases, eye blinking is usually a normal physiologic reaction. But if you get frequent eye blinking, then there are some reasons to cause it. First of all, eye blinking may be caused by the standing upside down of the eyelashes which irritate the eyelids to blink. You had better go to the doctor's for an examination to see if you have got conjunctivitis or tracoma which can lead to eyelid entropion that causes frequent eye blinking. Secondly, there might be a malfunction in your spleen and stomach or you get chronic disease, which can lead to insufficiency of nutritions in your eyes and thus the eyes have to blink to satisfy the necessity of eye surface. In addition, lead poisoning can as well cause frequent eye blink, in which case you must go to the hospital to take a blood test as soon as possible to see whether there is a sign in the micronutrient levels in case of more serious conditions. To avoid eye blinking too much, you should pay attention to develop a regular habit of working and resting, and take adequate rest and sleep. Do not overuse your eyes, and take a break every hour to do some eye exercises and watch distant objects and so on. Washing face with cold water can also reduce eye blinking. Besides, eat more foods rich in vitamin A,C and E and proteins, like eggs, milk, cod-liver oil, vegetables, fruits, and so on.

People blink about 15 times a minute. Blinking is good to the eyes. Firstly, it has the effect of cleaning and lubricating the eyeball. Secondly, blinking plays the role of protecting the eyes. When sand or flying insects approach the eyes, the eyes blink themselves to keep them out. And when your eyes are fatigued, they blink themselves to rest for a short time and you will feel a bit comfortable. Blinking is not a disease, and if you do not feel uncomfortable, you have no need to cure it. But if you have the symptoms of fear of light, lacrimation or the decrease of the sight while blinking, you need to go to hospital in time.
