How long can contact lenses be kept in solution?

My doctor said my eyes are not suitable for wearing contacts for some time and i need to wear glasses. So i want to know how long contacts can be in solution?Is there like some sort of specific length of time?

I am nearsighted and have prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses. Usually i prefer to wear prescription eyeglasses, but sometimes i also wear contact lenses for some occasion. When i buy contact lenses, the sellers suggest me clean and change the solution everyday. If not possible i need clean and change them at most 3 day a time. So, i think, the contacts can be in solution at most 3 days.
