Farsighted and Astigmatism-- Do I need different glasses for distance?

I've got better than 20/20 distance vision, but it hurts to focus on anything close up. Just got my first pair of reading glasses, and my near vision is remarkably clearer and less painful, but my distance vision is also sharper. The glasses also correct for mild astigmatism (-.50 in each eye), I'm wondering if that's what's making distance things clearer?

The eye doc said not to wear these all the time, like while driving, but since my distance vision is clearer with the reading glasses on, I'm wondering if separate glasses with only the astigmatism correction would be best for distance clarity?
