When do people start to need reading glasses and can reading glasses really help?

For a few years now I have been unable to focus on tiny writing (like backs of vitamin bottles) and lately my eyes get tired, "burny", and my vision is a little blurry after a few hours reading, using the computer, or doing close work. It is worse in dim light. I am thinking of trying out different pairs of drug store reading glasses to see if the problem goes away.

People need reading glasses when they find themselves have difficulty in close work such as reading or sewing. It is called presbyopia. Most people will develop presbyopia around the age of 40, some people with farsightedness may come earlier. If you don't have other vision problems such as hyperopia or myopia, the over the counter reading glasses are suitable for you.

The lens inside our eyes will get stiffer when we get older. We may have difficulty in focusing on things nearby, so we need to hold them in a faraway distance to observe them. But our eyes can see the things in the distance clearly. We may need to buy a pair of reading glasses at this time. Usually senior citizens are at a higher risk to suffer from presbyopia. We just need to have our eyes checked every year. The doctor will tell us whether we need a pair of reading glasses or not.

People usually start need reading glasses around fortys. Some are younger, some are older. If you are only going to use your glasses "as needed" for reading, etc, then the non prescription reading glasses got from drug store should be fine for you. However, if you are going to be wearing them for extended periods then it is worth it to get an eye exam and some good prescription lenses. They are expensive but worth it in my opinion. I got progressives because I was sick of taking them on and off constantly. Bifocals would work too.

When people find their vision blurry at reading distances or they have difficulties reading and doing close work, they might get presbyopia which is a natural aging process. Everyone who are over 40 would get presbyopia and need reading glasses. However, some people may need reading glasses a little later, maybe when they are 45, they will get presbyopia and need reading glasses.

Vision deteriorates tend to happen slowly. Usually we will not aware of that when it happens. But there are many signs which will suggest that you may need a pair of reading glasses. Do you need to struggle to read your computer screen at work or strain your eyes to make sense of documents? The signs may include: 1, need to squint or screw your eyes up to see those letters; 2, suffer from Headaches when your are reading; 3, hold your books further away from you; 4, often misjudge distances in your daily life.
