Most cases of red eyes are mild, so it is not necessary to see a doctor. Moreover, they will usually go always in 7-14 days without any treatment. However, in some cases, red eyes can take 2-4 weeks or more to go away itself, especially if complications arise. Artificial tears and cold packs may be used to relieve the dryness and inflammation/swelling caused by red eyes. However, if your red eyes accompanied by moderate to severe pain in the eye or vision problems, such as sensitivity to light or blurred vision or intense redness in the eye in your eyes, you need to seek immediate medical attention. Hope this helpful.

You need to see a doctor if your red eyes get worse or do not settle within a few days. If you have the follow symptom, please go to see a doctor urgently: You develop marked eye pain. Light starts to hurt your eyes (photophobia). Spots or blisters develop on the skin next to the eye. Your vision becomes affected. Your newborn baby develops conjunctivitis.

If symptoms get worse then see a doctor to check your eye and to see if you need treatment. 1. Bathing the eyes - using cool clean water, this may be soothing. 2. Lubricant eye drops - these may reduce eye discomfort. They are available over the counter, as well as on prescription.

In most cases, red, bloodshot eyes will clear up on their own. If you are experiencing bloodshot eyes due to allergies or environmental irritants, you can try using oral antihistamines or over-the-counter eye drops before seeking further medical attention. This solution often clears up red eyes quickly.
