  Generally, the swollen eyelids can be caused by the infections, conjunctivitis, orbital cellulitis, bepharitis,styes and so on. swollen eyelids can also be attributed to lack of sleep, too much sodium in diet, too much alcohol and artificial sweetener in diet. depending on the severity and cause of your swollen eyelid, you may want to seek medical attention. Some people are sufficiently in tune with their bodies to know the exact cause of the swelling, especially if it is allergy-related. For others, the swelling can come as a surprise.

  Actually, allergic, bacterial and viral types of pink eye can all cause swollen eyelid. Among other symptoms such as watery, red and itchy eyes. Styes,Usually appearing as a swollen, reddish bump on the edge of an eyelid, styes are caused by bacterial infection and inflammation of a meibomian gland.

  Swollen eyelid may be caused by trauma, infections or other injuries to the eye area. Almost any cause of inflammation to the eye area may appear as eyelid swelling.Rarely, systemic conditions which affect the entire body may result in fluid retention, including fluid retention in the tissues around the eyes.Swollen eyelids have different symptoms to the normal gradual change in position or drooping of the eyelids which can happen as people get older.

  Regarding to your question, there are lots of causes of swollen eyelid. Some causes are mild but some are potentially sight-threatening conditions. When it comes to mild conditions, they are gland blockage, allergies and contact lenses or solutions. However, when you meet the following severe conditions, you are required a immediate medical attention. They are infections,conjunctivitis,orbital celluliti,blepharitis,styes, chalazion and so on. All in all, when your swollen eyelid are cause by bacterial infection or eye disorder, you need to go to see your eye doctor as soon as you can.
