Well, from your description, I have to tell you that you may suffer from ocular migraines, which is also called as painless migraines. And for the causes, according to some researches, stress, too much caffeine, too much or too little sleep, weather changes, altitude, certain foods such as cheese, chocolate or wine can just cause it. And because of that, you may suffer some other symptoms, such as attacks of dizziness, hearing or vision disturbance, sensitivity to light or sound, nausea and vomiting. What is more, you may have trouble in speaking or understanding speech. So for the sake of health, I will suggest you go and see the eye doctor as soon as possible.

This may come to a shock to you all but I recently discovered that "coffe" was the cause. I was blaming in on uncontrolled sugar spikes and when I finally checked it, it was not high at all. Then for some odd reason or from hearing a lot about coffee being bad for you, I stopped drinking it and the kaleidoscope vision vanished -- it was coffee! I tried a cup again and "bingo"' it came back. It was last about 20 to 30 minutes. It was so scary. I don't know if that could be your problem as we are all different. It was definitely the cause if mine. I will never drink coffee again.God Bless

According to your description, you may have ocular migraine. Usually, people with ocular migraine don' t feel headache. But it can also some vision problems. Some people said that middle of their vision went gray at first. Then, they can see a jagged, colorful ring around the periphery of the sight. But they don' t feel headache. Do you have this experience? If so, it may be ocular migraine. I suggest you visit an doctor to diagnose your eyes.

Kaleidoscope vision could be a warning of a migraine. All of us will see colored spots if we stare at a bright object for long enough and then at a white wall. This is caused when the photosensitive cells on the retina are temporarily bleached and take a few seconds to adapt. Your brain interprets this as different colours. Flashing lights can also be an early warning for migraines. Flashing lights that last for 15 to 30 minutes are often symptomatic of ocular migraines, which are headaches that also cause coloured lights usually in both eyes. These flashing lights look like cracked glass or water running down over sparkling lights. Once the flashing lights start you can prevent a fullblown migraine by taking painkillers, drinking water, upping your blood sugar with food and laying down in a quiet, dark room.

Well, it sounds you have got an ocular migraine. If what you get is this type, then you need to relax coz it is no big deal. You may feel a little tired, but you will not get a headache. Don' t be freaking out, you will be fine. Just pay more attention to your eye health. And if it is convenient for you, you had better have your eyes checked regularly per year. Anyway, I wish you could get better soon.

Maybe a doctors visit is in order- I have the same occurrence but it is, for me, an epileptic "aura" that can precede an event.

The severe migraine' side effects include a kaleidoscope effect, with pieces of the vision loss. well, it is preceded by the visual aura and lasts for 20 minutes or more commonly, following the headache. Once you are at at the later stage of it, you can not ignore some crescent shaped blind spot and sometimes bright flashing light. Besides, as our eyes are highly related to our important nerves. We never want to undertake any serious eye damages. You had better go to see the doctor and know exact causes so that you can have a better nursing. In some cases, you may get a stuck with your retina. So, the advises from the optometrist after an thorough eye examine will be better.
